Book Blogger Hop

Since I enjoy participating in the Literary Blog Hop, I decided to give some more blog hop love, and join in on Crazy-for-Books' Book Blogger Hop.

This weeks question is:
"Why do you read the genre that you do?  What draws you to it?"

I think that I read more widely than I used to, but still the genre that I primarily read and review is contemporary literary fiction.  I think that this is what I read because I am trained to read it.  I have an M.A. in Literature and many of the classes that I enjoyed most throughout my education- graduate and undergraduate- were contemporary American and British Literature classes.  I was always really drawn to the books in those classes and my critical interests-psychoanalysis and trauma studies- were most suited to contemporary books.  So, when I read it now, even though I'm not engaging in the same kind of critical reading, I still get a lot of intellectual stimulation from reading in the genre.  I also enjoy seeing how literature evolves and changes and seeing the old become new again in different writers' style.

  1. Hopping through. New follower!
Until recent years, I mostly read non-fiction with some YA. Now I read mostly YA with some non-fiction and adult fiction mixed in.

  2. Hello, I'm a new follower =]

Can I just say, your background is awesome! I love the apples, they're very cool =] I mostly read YA Paranormal Romance, but there are other genres I read a bit too, like sci-fi and the occasional adult fiction too.

I was just wondering if you could take the time to fill in a form on my blog about a new meme idea I've had. I just want feedback to whether people would join in etc. =] Thanks so much if you do!
