Top Ten Tuesday: Winter Reads

Top Ten Tuesday from The Broke and The Bookish, asks for the top ten books on your winter TBR.  In my beginning of the year resolution TTT I called 2011 "the year of the chunkster" and it has not been that at all.  It is pretty unlikely that I will read the ten books on this list, but these are some I might like to cozy up with over my upcoming winter break.

10.
Jeffrey Eugenides, The Marriage Plot

9.
Jonathan Franzen, Freedom

8.
Daniel Handler and Maria Kalman (!!), Why We Broke Up

7.
Erin Morgenstern, The Night Circus

6.
Tom Perrotta, The Leftovers (ARC)

5.
Colson Whitehead, Zone One (ARC)

4.
J. Courtney Sullivan, Maine (ARC)

3.
Emily Bronte, Wuthering Heights

2.
Toni Morrison, Song of Solomon

1.
Haruki Murakami, 1Q84

What will you all be reading over the holidays?

  1. I love Wuthering Heights! It has been way too long since I sat down and read it!

My biggest goal this winter is to get some of the books on my TBR pile read so I can get them moved out. So far the challenge is going so well for me!! So I hope next week will be as good as this week. :)

  2. I've got some Murakami on my list this winter, too. But it will probably be a while before I can tackle 1Q84. Good luck with your list!

  3. Ooh, I had forgotten all about Why We Broke Up! Thanks for the reminder.

  4. Wuthering Heights is crazy! It's a great novel, though also frustrating for me. I hope you enjoy it.

  5. Awesome list. I've heard so many good things about The Marriage Plot, and I can't wait to read Why We Broke Up. (You've gotta love Daniel Handler/Lemony Snicket.)

For what it's worth, The Night Circus is easily one of my favorite books of the year. Gorgeous in hardcopy, too.

  6. Wuthering Heights!! Have you read that one before? I hated it and wanted to throw it and struggled -- and then suddenly I adored it. All that in one read! It's a definite experience. Poetry or Gothic or psychological or mystery? Who knows? But it's awesome. :-)

  7. What a fantastic list! I loved The Marriage Plot, Freedom, The Leftovers (a favorite author of mine); have pre-ordered Why We Broke Up because it sounds amazing; was underwhelmed with The Night Circus (I'm the minority there); and hope to Zone One by the end of the year. Enjoy!

  8. I have great hopes for The Marriage Plot, but I'm willing to wait for the paperback.

What's the significance of the (!!) for #8? I'm curious now! I haven't heard anything about Why We Broke Up.

  9. WOAH, this is seriously a great list. I loved Freedom ... it was my favorite book of 2010!

  10. Shannon: I'm just really into Maira Kalman. She illustrates and writes children's books, mainly, but also a few adult books. I'm super excited to see her paired up with Daniel Handler (Lemony Snicket) for this one.
