And yet another challenge...

I would like to say that it will probably be my last, but I'm not sure...  BTW, I am going to post some reviews soon.  I promise.

I have never been much of a mystery/crime/thriller reader, and I am thinking about this challenge as an opportunity to take a lot at some classics of the genre.  This one is hosted by Ben at Dead End Follies and you should all check it out.

Here are my TENTATIVE selections:

Hardboiled Classic: Chandler, The Big Sleep

Noir Classic:  Cain, Double Indemnity

Prison Book: Margaret Atwood, Alias Grace

Book Written by a Writer that has Done Time: Kesey, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest

Book with a Psychopath Protagonist:  Fowles,  The Collector  Gillian Flynn, Gone Girl (changed)

Gothic Novel: Tartt, The Secret History

Classic Novel Whose Plot Revolves Around a Crime: Capote, In Cold Blood

The "Why the HELL am I Getting Myself Into This" Book:  I don't know yet.  Maybe a Russian.  Maybe Pynchon or DFW.

  2. Thanks for joining Laura! I haven't actually read Cain, but I have seen the movie for Double Indemnity and it was the bomb. I'm sure you'll love it

  3. I'm happy you're participating in this challenge too! I'm really looking forward to this one. I also chose Alias Grace for the prison book.

I read The Collector earlier this year and it's fantastic. Super creepy and very interesting all at once. I hope you enjoy it!

  4. Ow, sounds like an awesome challenge. But your list is HUGE! Checking out the challenge rules right now... (your link doesn't work btw, needed to typ www in front of the URL).

As I planned on reading the FIRST detectiver story ever anyway... Do you know which one that is? It fit's right in with the SKY category for the What's in a name challenge #5 (and I actually planned on reading it for the JEWEL category in this year's challenge).

  5. BTW funny that you say you're not much of a mystery/crime/thriller reader as your blog is mentioned after EA Poe's story! :) What's the story behind that?

  6. @o I am really excited about it. Tartt has been on my TBR for years.

@ Ben Thanks! I'm looking forward to it.

@ Brenna Yay! I'm happy to have a new challenge. This one takes me out of my reading comfort zone.

@Gnoegnoe I'm pretty happy with my list. Lots of people consider Murders in the Rue Morgue the first detective story, but maybe you are referring to Hoffman? I'm not sure what you mean about my blog and Poe though, although I do love Poe.
