Top Ten Tuesday: Flashback

The Broke and the Bookish are letting those of us who participate in Top Ten Tuesday dip into the archives this week, and grab one of the topics that we missed.

I chose TTT #10: Ten Books I Can't Believe I've Never Read

10. Don DeLillo, Underworld:  DeLillo is one of my favorite writers, but I can't seem to finish his beastly masterpiece.  I've started and stopped twice.  One day I will conquer it.
9. Emily Bronte, Wuthering Heights:  I keep putting this on challenge lists and then not reading it.
8.William Golding, Lord of the Flies:  I feel like most people read this in school, but somehow, like The Great Gatsby which I have since read, I skipped over it.
7. Anything by David Foster Wallace:  As someone who studied postmodern theory and American Literature in graduate school, I feel like I should have already tackled Infinite Jest, but I haven't read anything by DFW at all except for a few essays.
6.  Kite Runner, Water for Elephants, Life of Pi:  There is a whole slew of extremely popular books that I missed the boat on when they came out.  I was reading a lot of assigned books at the time.
5. Homer, The Iliad and The Odyssey:  This is something else that I think I should have had to tackle at some point in my education, but I didn't, and so I haven't read them.  I didn't have to take a Shakespeare class either, but I did read plenty of that.
4. Charles Dickens, David Copperfield:  I've read lots of Dickens, but I just didn't have the energy for this one in my Dickens/Eliot class.  I think we even had two weeks to read it, but I didn't make it.
3. Sigmund Freud, The Interpretation of Dreams:  Again, this is one that I feel like I should have prioritized as a student.  I studied Freud, but never his most-read book.
2.Anything by Jane Austen except for Pride and Prejudice:  I think I pretend sometimes that I have read others, but nope.
1. Harry Potter books 2-7.

  2. It's cool - I've never read those either. Except I haven't read ANY HP books. Or seen the movies. Yikes.

  3. I've read a couple of Austen novels but some were so long ago I don't really remember them, I only remember P&P and Emma. I need to re-read most of her books.

My husband keeps bugging to read Underworld but seriously, the SIZE of that thing!

  4. Other than Jane Austen and Homer, I haven't read any of these books either. And to be honest, I liked the Wishbone versions of Homer's books better. :D
