I love the cover for this book, and I love it so much it made me want to read it, even though the book itself isn't something that would necessarily be up my alley.  But, I saw the beautiful cover, and then read that the book is set at Princeton, and I was definitely in.

The book is about an Eastern European girl, Thea Slavin, who is attending Princeton to study music.  Her parents are wary of her going to that particular Ivy, however, since her older sister died there decades before and her body was stolen from the morgue.  Thea never knew her sister, but is interested in the mystery surrounding her disappearance.  So, when she arrives at Princeton, she finds herself not only caught up in the opportunities to perform on the piano that are being offered to her, but in the investigation of her family's (supernatural?) past.  And, on top of all that, a handsome stranger appears at her first performance, and she finds herself in a romance as well.  But nothing is what it first seems to Thea, and she learns that the world is much more full of magic than she ever knew.

From the description on the book jacket, I thought that there would be heavier fantasy elements to the story.  I was expecting the fantasy to come early in the novel, and was surprised that it came much later and lighter than what I was prepared for.  The beginning of the book was a little slow going for me, but about halfway through I found myself totally caught up in the romance and the mystery of the story.  Slight spoiler:  There is a love triangle, and I found that I didn't even know who to root for (since they were both some handsome and flawed), but I definitely wanted to know what happened. My critique of the book is that there might be just a few too many elements, threads to follow, and I don't know if they all tie up.  However, I certainly enjoyed the journey.

  1. Wow, I think I'd be concerned about my child attending the same school where her sister died ... creepy!
